one simple way could be to bring down your system volume from with in the
computer's volume settings.
failing that, either of your 2 suggestions would probably work.
as far as preamps go, one of the in-line cmoy type headphone amps would
boost the volume of your speech.

Simon, yep, I should play with my system volume. Would my headphone
outputs be able to drive line in inputs?

Okay, here we go.
Both your sound card and your triple talk have similar small chip amplifiers
that are, essentially, current pumps. When you put two of them pumping to
the same output, electronically speaking, they see each other and the
impedance, (resistance) of the circuit changes
Geoff, thanks for the explanation. Now, I know why I'm having volume problems.

Hello,
If your sound card has a line in jack, you should plug your mixer in to
that.
But you will need a cable that has the RCA plugs on one end, and a 1-8th
inch many plug on the other end.
You can pick those up at RadioShack at about $6.
Hope this helps.
My best regards.
John.

Your problem is twofold.
First, the channel problem can be solved with a minor correction of
cable. Most laptops have a single eight-inch or 3.5 millimeter jack
which is actually a stereo affair with three conductors. A quick trip
to Radio Shack or a store like it will get you what you need--a
Hello James,
The problem could be, that your panning knobs are a little off.
Reset the knobs to balance, then the sound will come out of both speakers.
My best regards!

Hello Norma,
This is right up my ally.
I do a lot of this stuff in my spare time too as well.
To answer the first question, the line in jack on your sound card has a
volume control.
You can go in to my computer, then control panel, then sounds and audio
devices.
Once you get there, you will be

Hi John,
Do you reckon I could have a conversation with you on this matter? I'm
curious if I'm doing this right
You can do that, but you need multiple sound cards, one for the music, one
for skype, and you bring them in on different channels of the mixer,
adjusting their respective volumes and you on the mixer use a microphone
either with a quarter inch connection or a XLR connection which is the
preferred
retarded with the later versions of jaws, etc).
