My experience is partly similar to what Charles mentioned: an external
soundcard can be much better in S/R ratio (both Brownian noise of the
preamp and specific frequencies produced by power supply). I would not say
that noise is less noticeable in live performance though - on the

audio connections or create tilde~ objects make a difference, and this
affects when we're using [s~] / [r~].
The idea I had is that no matter what was going on, the sends and receives
would ALWAYS be in sync with the audio
benefits of using an external soundcard :
- standard plugs : TRS 6.35 or XLR ios.
- hence symmetric signal ios (possibly) : far more robust to electrical
interferences
- when i say standard plugs, i also mean professional heavy duty
reliable plugs and jacks
- preamps
- headphones monitoring
