The Mac event handling code triggers an event for keyup but I'm not sure why
it doesn't make it to the gemkeyboard object. I have not written any of
this code myself so it will take some time to figure out what is going on.

Why don't you use a pd vanilla object for the keyboard inputs?
could not test is on windows or linux, so there might be problems
with
keyboard layouts. I use hid and gemmouse for navigation.
