so my main daw is ableton live 5 on a mac g4...sooo i was wondering if there
was a way possible to output pure data 'performances' to wav files (or aiff)
and also if there was a way to sort of use pure data extended as an 'effects
pedal' in a sense with distortions and weird effects and such

For the effects pedal stuff, have you checked out Jack OSX? It makes
routing audio between apps really easy - I use it for that purpose all
the time.
