 Hi,

I'm trying to load a video in full HD 1920 X 1080 with [pix_film] to
 texture a rectangle.

 Quicktime movie .mov

 Size 1920 X 1080

I reduced its format size to HD 1280 X 720 and now [pix_film] is able to
open it but reproduction is slow and choppy.

I use [pix_film] to load Quicktime (.mov) DV 780 X 420 videos and they run
 perfectly.The same setup won't work with 1920 X 1080.

 I work on OS X 10.9.1 and Pd-Ext 0.43.4 extended.

How can I load videos in full HD 1920 x 1080 in order to texture
 effectively?

 M

Hello,

to my experience, at least on linux, it is hard to keep good framerate
with the current implementation of pix_film and HD files, regardless of
the format, and it plays far better using pdgst library.
https://github.com/umlaeute/pdgst
although it still need some polishing (for controlling the playback of a
file f.ex. ) the displaying of even multiple movies in full HD mpg4 or
mjpg is fluid with it ...

(I did a small fork of it on github - https://github.com/Olm-e/pdgst -
to play with the code and added the seek parameter so you can control
the playhead and speed ... but it still needs some stuff like being able
to get the length of a movie to know when to stop, loop, etc ...
Iohannes, maybe you can look at this a bit ?)

hope it helps,

Ol.

 Haha! Good point!

Thanks everybody for the answers. I took a look to Matt Davey's DIY2
effects and he put no license txt file on its folder. Maelstorm mmb
 libraries have no license too...

My patch is for everyone who wants to use it or learn with it. If
someone finally uses MEH-SYSTEM or a modified version of it in stage or
for a video or whatever... I would like to know it... only that!

Maybe I leave it as is. Saying nothing about license...

 --
Hello,
having no licence is probably not a good idea, as it's like enforcing
the default copyright rules that basically give no rights at all ...
(lots of code are practically not legaly usable on github for that
reason f.ex.)
the best would be IMHO to put it in (L)GPL and gently ask to downloaders
to report use as a courtesy on the download page...
have a good day,

Ol.

*Walker, and more ...*

Natacha Roussel and Pieter Heremans are advancing well on their project
and thought good to open it up :

x-Bee mesh network == text to speech.

Pietr has done a set up xBee/minibee/raspberry pi X 3 wich turn ratts
(the librairies used by Nicolas d'alessandro in speech synthesys)

We can now play sending and receiving data to and from Raspi's, and
through a Pure Data patch to play with the vocal elements, modify
parameters of the speach rythm, stress, etc...

a little présentation over the xbee network ; RF communication and
applied usage of the text to speech librairies in pure data

Also for those that want it, we'll do a little wrap up of the year, and
a discussion for future plans, as the Variable space will end up this
summer. (but we are preparing the next stage... )

*Walker, et plus ...*

Natacha Roussel et Pieter Heremans ont bien avancé sur leur projet et
ont pensé que c'était le bon moment pour l'ouvrir :

x-Bee mesh network == test to speech

_*Pure data patching circle Brussels @ Variable #07*_

*9 March 2013*

*EN :*
*//*The Patching Circles are open workshop session to learn and share
about the pure-data software and other.

/_Workshop: 13h - 19h_/

Nicolas d'Alessandro will come to present us his approach to speech
synthesis, working on an analog model of a voice flux filtered by
organs, different from classical analytical sample based aproach :

/Hands on Performative Speech Synthesis in Pure Data/

Purposes of voice synthesis have significantly evolved over the last 50
years, tackling more and more complex challenges. The early first
challenge has been to produce intelligible speech. Intelligible means
that the message (words, sentences) can be understood by others. For
this purpose, voice articulation is defined as rules, trajectories on
production models parameters. Later, we see the challenge of producing
voices with a more natural timbre. Here natural means that it has to
be close enough from a real human voice, in order to be confusing and
thus comfortable for the listener.
This challenge has been addressed for the last 15 years by using
prerecorded voice material (databases) and reorganize contents (by
concatenating subdivided units) in order to meet the requested sentence.
The impact of these different voice production strategies on achievable
realtime abilities and controllability of the system is huge. Relying on
a voice model gives access to production parameters, which is nice for
realtime control, as far as a meaningful mapping can be designed (e.g.
some problems with physical models). Using database segments helps in
achieving natural sounds but highlights many controllability problems.
Transversally to these issues, the how can I patch that in Pure Data ?
question often pops up. This is exactly what we address in this
tutorial! It is useful for anybody who is interested in producing
synthetic voice in a realtime application, a digital instrument or an
interactive artistic project. We will use some basic understanding of
how voice is produced, not more than the basic source/filter
representation, and more complex aspects of voice synthesis (such as
spectral processing, articulatory models, unit management) will be
re-explained and illustrated with examples. Indeed studied techniques
will be described through simple patch examples.

hello,

to my knowledge, and following what I already tried, the xvideo
extention is not usable due to the restrictions on the gpu chip,
and even gstreamer is not capable of using it :

result of collective efforts and experiments during the last puredata
patching circle in Brussels :

if anyone can leverage this it will be good... (but I don't have too
much hope)

i get extention xvideo missing and no xvideo extention on :0

 $ xdpyinfo

yeilds no module such as xv anything.

can someone confirm that xv even exists as a working extention on rpi?
maybe i have to load v4l manually?
not sure how to do that

does the raspbian package fail on raspbian?? I guess it must build, it has
been built in the main debian repos for both armhf and armel for quite a

It does have the pdp-opengl binary, and it does depend on gsl etc so they

[PD] pdgst and seek

2012-08-23 Thread Olm-e

hello,

when trying to use pdgst to replace pixvideo object for HD videos in a
project, I could not find how to use the seek function of Gstreamer to

framerate control)

is there any exemple out-there for that function?
I see it's in the source as pdgst_element_seek, but can't find how to
use it (message? object? arguments? ... I read the pdf paper by Iohannes
but it didn't help much :/ )

we have a discussion about how to use pdGst on codelab.fr actually, for

2011-07-09 Thread olm-e
Here in Belgium, once we had election invalidated because a computer had a
bug (electronic voting system). The experts that investigated the case
found that it was ... cosmic rays ...

no one knows how they found out about that (I guess it's the last chance
answer from an expert, his jocker before everyone laugh roling on the
floor... )

but as you're an artist, probably you can just say you don't know what
happened, and probably you don't care, exept for it not to reapear later.

So changing the setup is good : other inital conditions will lead to
another chaos attractor.

... (how many time did I got my gear braking without notice just when it
should not, and resurecting with just a whisper of hope... countless ... I
even had a living dead hard-drive for more than 6 month, rattling and
refracting to start up but still working... )

keep up the good work, until the sky fall down ;)

Olm-

PS : murphy's law is the only one to trust in computer science...

 hello,

i need help to understand a major problem i had today.

i'm unsing a old computer for a project, running ubuntu linux 10.04, with
a presonus FP10 fire wire soundcard with jack.
everything was running fine for weeks when we worked on this project.
i boot this computer 3 days ago, start pd and everything was working wey
 well for all rehearsal.
(i did not close pd since)

the problem i've experience is that pd freeze during the performance.

(fortunately, it was 10 000 Km away from where i'm living so i have no
 friend on the audience)
This is my 1st unexpected pd freeze (when i'm not on edit mode) since i
begin using pd, 11 years ago.
i'm running pd vanilla with almost no externals
thanks to Murphy's law, it occur in performance, and not in rehearsal.

worst of all : i don't know what is the problem, and can't make things
 work again.

So, the 1st thing i could imagine is a hardware problem, since the
 software was tested for month.
(This patch work for weeks without closing pd, and this pd installation
run for 8 month for an installation).

 fact are :
 - after rebooting the computer/soundcard etc, jack start and works
 - audacity can connect to jack.
 - pd crash on start-up if started with jack.
 - i do not change anything about pd
 - i did not physically touch the computer for the last 10 minutes before
 the freeze (everything is automatized)
 - this computer is not connected to internet, i did not do any update
 since it was stable.
 - the soundcard works OK on an other computer on osX.

i'll use another computer for tomorrow performance, and i'll have more
time to understand the problem when i'll be back home, however i would
really appreciate to understand as soon as possible what could cause a
huge problem like what i experience today.

So, with that mail i share my shame with you, but i also really apreciate
to have some pointer about what to test in order to understand the
 problem.
Why pd can't connect to jack anymore, since jack work and noting was
 change about pd?
and why this occure during a live performance...

 thanks for your consideration,

 cheers

Re: [PD] advices needed to track dancer (kinect, osceleton, tuio, pidip)

2011-06-21 Thread olm-e

 hi,

i need to track a dancer to project and map videos on him (one of the
video is a human body on a black background).
I am trying the kinect at the moment thinking first that it would be
the easiest solution because it has the infrared camera and no need of
infrared light. So, I have made a first patch using osceleton to get
the coordinate of the dancer and mapped these X/Y/Z coordinates to
feed a translate object connected to pix_film so the video is
 following the dancer.

Regarding this solution, the limits are :
 - the distance the kinect can track : from what i experimented and
read it can not track correctly with more than 4,5 meters.
 - the PSI pose is required (it is not a big deal because the show
starts in the dark anyway but would be better without it).

 Now here are my questions:

 - i have got pidip working and i read that i could use the [pdp_joint]
object to avoid to do the PSI pose, but the problem is i don't
understand how to use it regarding this project and if it would be
possible to get the coordinates like with osceleton.

 - I know there is also the TuioClient object that could be usefull but
after binding it to osceleton port nothing happens.

 - I have never worked with tracking motion and video projections
before and i am also wondering where i should put the beemer and
camera to be the most efficient as possible.
(I don't know yet the dimensions of the stage ..)

 - Someone told me that it would be maybe easier to do it with the ps3
eye camera removing the IR filter, and put it on the cealing to work
 only with the X/Y axes.
 any ideas on this ?

Any advice would be very much appreciated,

 #ubuntu 10.04
 #fireGL v5700

 thanks in advance
 delphine

if you work with kinect, osceleton send also the coordinate of the user
before it track it with the psi pose. you can just listen to /user/1
/user/2 etc ... to get the coordinates (3 floats)
the problem is if the dancer makes the psi pose and got tracked, then that
data is not send anymore, but the whole sceleton instead.

the ps3eye with IR is also a good option but require more calibration.

anyone knows what kind, and more importantly in which type of shop, should

Interresting trick ... didn't knew beewax was such good sound conductor.

I suggest you contact some beekeeper directly, they are nice people
generaly, and there are more and more of them in the cities now.
You'll find the most natural and cheapest wax that way, probably for free
(if you explain for what it is), and maybe meet some nice people ... ;)

http://www.lbka.org.uk/index.php

I could send some to you from brussels (from Okno or other place), but it
is better you find some localy.

Thomas Turine will come and discuss some conceptual and critical views.
Come with your projects and ideas ! We'll discuss music and interaction.

He is a young talented Belgian composer, who explored as diverse musical
territories from electronic acid to compositions for contemporary
orchestra. In between he played with jazz rock, fusing traditional world
music melodies with modern influences and classical instruments, mixing
sound recordings and electro punk, in an imaginative and sensitive
style. As of today, his music has become a genuine sculpting with sound
in motion, with a strong consideration for the surroundings and the
investigation of sound spaces, as much composing with acoustic
instruments as electroacoustic devices.
Currently he is composing for dance pieces, choreographies, theatre, and
interactive spatial installations. He is using Pure Data in his work and
teaching, e.g. lately in Paris (Louis Lumière) in a masterclass
electroacoustic music.

As usual, these are free events.
Bring your laptops, headphones and projects.
Please send a short e-mail to ol[at]okno.be to confirm your

[PD] theora stream in/out PD - any working version of pdp_icedthe~ ?

2011-01-17 Thread Olm-e
hello, trying to get some video stream into pd for the art's birthday,
we find that the help patch for pdp_icedthe~ both in pure:dyne 9.11 and
pd extended 42.5 are throwing errors instead of images ...
when connecting to a stream, it send back connection status framerate
etc ok but the pdp_glx cry and shout packet is not a PDP_IMAGE ...
any idea ???

we are also trying to use pdgst but as this still a hell on OSX, any
working solution to get a ogg/theora stream in pd would help... (part of
our participants are using OSX, other use linux flavors... )

tks a lot,

 Hi,

 That's simple:

 Install pd-extended (Armel version)

There is no OpenGL support on the Freerunner so Gem, pdp, pidip
are not compiled on this version.

 1/ Install dependencies:

 wget
 http://www.debian-multimedia.org/pool/main/d/debian-multimedia-keyring/debian-multimedia-keyring_2008.10.16_all.deb

 dpkg -i debian-multimedia-keyring_2008.10.16_all.deb

 nano -w /etc/apt/sources list

and add: deb http://www.debian-multimedia.org lenny main non-free

 then:

 apt-get install x-ttcidfont-conf tcllib libfftw3-3 libflite1
 libjack0 libmp3lame0 libogg0 libspeex1 libvorbis0a libvorbisenc2
 libvorbisfile3 tcl8.5 tk8.5

 2/ Install Pd-extended for armel

 wget http://www.servideo.org/debian/Pd-0.42.5-extended_light_armel.deb

 dpkg -i Pd-0.42.5-extended_light_armel.deb

Note that if you had previously troubles with the dependencies of
 pd-extended, make a dpkg -P pdextended

 3/ go to:

 /usr/share/applications/pd-extended.desktop
 and replace
 Exec=pasuspender -- /usr/bin/pdextended -alsa %F
 by:
Exec=pdextended -alsa (-- depending the space left, you should
 install also alsa-base for that)
 or by:
 Exec=pdextended -oss (-- my choice)

4/Run Pd-extended or puredata on the Freerunner:

a/ Go to Main Menu Applications QX
b/ Select options (white file on the bottom left) and click
 favourites
 c/ Select pd-extended
d/ Quit QX and come back to QX
e/ Select pd-xextended and set on options the settings like
for example: prevent suspending, Prevent screen diming, Use
Window Manager and Full screen and save.
 f/ Select pd-extended
g/ Launch pd-extended with Options Launch.

If you want to install puredata instead of pd-extended:

 apt-get install puredata

 Best,

 Cosmin

but the packages there are for pd 0.41-4,
so it's not what you need.

you can try pure:dyne packages instead :
 https://launchpad.net/~puredyne-team/+archive/ppa?field.series_filter=lucid,

these packages are for pd 0.42-1

 this is wrong!

obviously these are not the pd source, but binaries..

when we say sources, you need a pd/src folder

in svn you'd have to do :

 /Software/pd-svn/trunk/externals/pix_opencv# ./configure
 --with-pd=../../pd

Hi,

sorry, I am using the source from the tgz, not binaries, and pointing to
/home/myname/pd-src/Pd-0.42.5-extended/pd/src give me the same error...
(I tried different dir, nothing change... )
I did not build pd since the binary is working well, I was just trying
to add opencv to it.

pdp_opencv binaries for 0.41-4 works for me, but I'll try with puredyne
packages for pix_opencv... thanks for you time.

well no, don't put /src and obviously pd-extended
is not packaged like the usual pd,

 the real test is :

 if test -f $PD_DIR/src/m_pd.h
 then
   AC_SUBST(PD_DIR)
   echo ok.
 else
echo pd source tree not found... install it and use the

 the PD_DIR should be /home/myname/pd-src/Pd-0.42.5-extended/pd,
but in this you don't have src/m_pd.h...

we said sources of pd, not of pd-extended..

 ciao,
 sevy

Ha, ok then,

Thanks for the disembiguation, didn't knew sources where structured
differently for pd in extended and vanilla...
so I'm trying now with pd vanilla and pdp from separate sources archive...

still binaries for pdp_opencv version pd-0.41.1 works for me to this

[PD] [announce] DarkMatr showing at IMAL

2009-12-13 Thread Olm-e
Hello, I just wanted to tell that the project DarkMatr, lead by Tom
Heene is showing at IMAL Brussels Belgium this week,
This project was entirely made using FLOSS, namely Processing, OpenCV
(using a special far IR camera) and PureData for the sound part (which I
managed), using on the fly user selected Freesound.org database samples
in one sequence, thanks (big thanks) to Patrick (@11h11.com) that
debugged the python retriever script from pdmtl lib.

You can have more info on this installation on http://darkmatr.be

The whole system code is/will be available on the net as soon as we have
stabilized it enoegh.

[PD] iemguts in Pd-extended 0.41.4

2009-06-08 Thread Olm-e
hello,

I'm trying to build iemguts for the latest pd-extended (src from svn
branche 0.41 on ubuntu 8.04), but I get this error :

b...@blih:~/Desktop/pd-src/Pd-0.41-extended/0.41/externals/iem/iemguts/src$
make
make l_i386
make[1]: Entering directory
`/home/blah/Desktop/pd-src/Pd-0.41-extended/0.41/externals/iem/iemguts/src'
cc -shared -lc -lm -DPD -g -O2 -funroll-loops -fomit-frame-pointer
-fPIC -Wall -W -Wshadow -Wstrict-prototypes -Wno-unused -Wno-parentheses
-Wno-switch -I../../../../pd/src -o autoabstraction.l_i386 autoabstraction.c
autoabstraction.c:70: error: redefinition of typedef ‘loader_t’
../../../../pd/src/s_stuff.h:55: error: previous declaration of
‘loader_t’ was here
make[1]: *** [autoabstraction.l_i386] Error 1
make[1]: Leaving directory
`/home/blah/Desktop/pd-src/Pd-0.41-extended/0.41/externals/iem/iemguts/src'
make: *** [auto] Error 2

any idea (maybe I don't do it the right way)?
thanks a lot,

i don't know which patches have been applied to PdX-0.41. it seems
like it exposes the loader_t stuff, unlike Pd-vanilla 0.41.
since Pd-vanilla does not expose it, iemguts just redeclares it for
it's own uses, which is what is causing you problems here.

the simple fix is: delete lines 68-73 in autoabstraction.c
