Here in Canada, every lab I've ever used (pro, 1-hour, department store)
offers 8x12s as well as 8x10s. I used to crop my shots sort of tightly, but
now I usually shoot with 8x10 proportions in mind. Even so, I often order
an 8x12 print and cut it myself, so I get the exact cropping I want.
I like the subject matter and the action you caught, but it is over exposed
slightly.

You need to go look in the archive at a discussion a couple
of weeks ago. Because of the 'film' size on the *ist-D (aka
the 'magnification factor), a slide duplicator forces you
to crop your image. To get a full frame slide onto digital
we need about a .75:1 rather than a 1:1 - 1:2 IIRC

The ME will only set the shutter speed if you use a Pentax dedicated flash. The
Vivitar 285 is not a dedicated flash. Neither the ME, nor the 285 are TTL capable.
Use the 100X setting, or slower. Set the f-stop to one suggested on the flash
dial, and the flash to that also.

Perhaps the sensor has difficulty with 1/15,000th of a second exposures? It
seems to have problems with 1 second exposures on the other end too.
This it called reciprocity failure with film.
