Yes, that's the same lens, although I have the k-mount version. I think
it is generally considered a bit better than the Tamron, but it's also

If it were mine I'd try some adjustment in PS CS2-Shadow/Highlights to
lighten the foreground a little.
I'd also try a portrait orientation, to emphasize the moon.

Yes, you can do that with a Ds as well. The big thing about the K10d is
being able to set the ISO on the fly and have the camera set the correct
shutter speed and aperture.
