Since one ideally uses a polarizer at a right angle to the sun, I have
never been certain that adding coating to a polarizer accomplishes very
much. I believe that Pentax does not add SMC coating to their
polarizers, while they add SMC coating to nearly everything else that
light goes through.
Not sure what it is or what your planned usage for it, but for storage of
40gb it sure is expensive. My last Maxtor external drive a year ago was $160
for 300gb.

I share that concern, but consider it to be largely paranoia. I have a 40
GB SmartTrax (clunky in my opinion). After the first several times you
download a memory card and find that things worked as expected, it's
unlikely you'll take the time to check and view images on the display.

I carried mine on four trips so far where I didn't want to hassle the
laptop along. It worked brilliantly. I've also used it occasionally
to show a client some photos when a laptop or other display mechanism
was somewhat inappropriate to the circumstances.
I usually get 10-13 GBytes worth

I been using a Wolverine MPV for well over a year with no complaints. The
MPV has an actual display and supposedly can also serve as an MP3 player and
show videos. I've never used the M and V, but the P is intuitive and works
quickly.
