I don't know why it works from a technical point of view, but it
works:-). The K20D yields very good high ISO pics with noise control
set to the minimum. If I get the results I want, I don't worry a lot

To get serious about this, the ISO number doesn't just multiply the signal.
There are other factors, most notably heat, that determine how much noise will
acompany that multiplication. Thus, a camera can, indeed, be a good high ISO
performer. And the K20D is exactly that. But as I noted before,
anyone found that the ambient shooting temperture affects high ISO
performance? That would be interesting to know, here in florida
its always HOT and I dont use it much, on the istDS ISO3200 is really

I think the light is a problem in both. Some of it is direct, some is shadow.
It's a bit hard. Actually, I think it works better in the BW. It's a good
shot. But low, end of day light coming from either behind the camera or behind
the subject could make it a superb shot.

In addition to the amount of noise, there seems to be an emerging
awareness that all noise is not equal. Some noise doesn't look so
bad. It seems to be more like film grain. Other noise is just...
well... noise.

Yes, I see what you mean. This was shot at 5:39:45 pm yesterday. ( I love
that I can look up this in metadata!) Perhaps, a bit too early still. Big
thanks, Paul! Cheers, Christine

Wow. What a week.
Got some good photography done, lots of biking and quite a bit of
hiking. Pictures to follow soon.
Monday Tuesday we bicycled. Monday on the Blue Ridge Parkway. It's a
totally different way of experiencing the Parkway. Highly recommended if
you can handle the hills.

Neat-O, Paul! So, then, did you sandwich these shots together in
Photoshop? Cheers, Christine

Hi Christine.
I haven't tried to combine them. They might be a bit of a mismatch, due to the
radically different DOF. But perhaps I'll take a look. A combination might be
nice for a print.

Congratulations! Sounds like quite a week and a significant personal
achievement. I look forward to your pics. I'm not familiar with Gray's Lily,
but I'm an avid gardener and a wildflower fan, so I'm anxious to see this
speciment.

Really enjoyed this. Gray's Lily looks like an ancient relative of the common
tiger lily. The Boone's Scout Trail pic is superb. Also love the motorcycles on
the road. But they're all very nice. Excellent.
