I have been dribbling out images that I call my pre-gig pics, they are
incidental images shot whilst
I find very similar looking Woodpeckers and the name issue
I'm considering to be the answer.

Yep, a senior moment. Red-Bellied is the name, and it’s fitting in that the red
tone is below the breast. They seem to be the second most common woodpecker
here in Michigan, trailing only the Downey.

Ok Jack, so what book are you using?
This is a very common bird back here in the east. , one I know in person
very well from years of watching them at a friends house north of the city.
Paul said "red breasted beauty" The actual name is Red-bellied - so
perhaps some confusion there.
I failed to find a solid match to
Paul's "Red-Breasted" image.
Age and gender related differences
complicate the choices.

Jack - that name always bothered me , but probably to distinguish from
the red-headed wood-pecker, name wise in addition to that faint
reddishness on his belly... This one I know well, but he also resembles
the gila-woodpecker of
Arizona ...

I could be wrong. I’ll look further, although I think others have said that

Yes, I see it a bit better from this
angle.
As it happens, the Red Breasted
in my field guide shows deep red
covering the head as well as the
breast. Doesn't necessarily mean
that my book is the Bird Bible. :)

I don't blame you for " not
understanding." The word "likely"
should not have been there.
Sorry.

Yes, although “Red Breasted” is the audubon name, the red crown is the
prominent feature. However, the breast does show a tinge of red. I have a
couple of pics, while not very attractive, show the red underside. I’ll post
one. https://www.photo.net/photo/18434556/Red-Breasted-Woodpecker

I agree it's a "beauty" but the red
I see is in the form of a scull cap.

Ken,
Your current Pug entry is certainly well seen, but
wish you had chosen to move somewhat further to your
right and then, turning slightly back to the left,
placed the two near grass tufts further to the left.
Also, the sand behind the tufts could likely have been
