This is just a modest potted cactus until mid-December, when bright red flowers grow from the tips of its leaves (though many don’t make it past the bud stage). This year our plant bloomed twice, in December and again late last month.

GESO (7) - Penn Campus Walk

My long walk a few days ago included some of the University of Pennsylvania campus. The stained glass is in St. Mary’s Church, which has a very progressive Episcopal tradition. It occupies a corner of the Penn campus, but is not part of Penn (the church was on the land first).

PESOs - Minneapolis Park

Across from the Minneapolis Institute of Art is a beautiful park, Washburn-Fair-Oaks. It is on the site of a mansion that was given to the city, but torn down in the 1920s when the city could not maintain it. The colors really were this vivid on a crisp autumn morning.
