This looks like veiling flare, a symptom of the Aspheric lens element in the lens separating. It certainly is not blooming :-( Sorry Patrice... Thank you all for your opinion... I'll probably consider a digital-optimized 18-80 or similar (don't know yet which brand and model), not

You might want to look for the SMC Pentax F 35-70mm f3.5~4.5. Good build and acceptable optics. They can be found in good contrition for between $30-$50. Not a perfect solution, but not a bad stopgap. Patrice LACOUTURE (GMail) wrote: This looks like veiling flare, a symptom of the

Kostas Kavoussanakis: Can you post a picture somewhere? While others have covered the element separation angle, I an wondering if you are experiencing digital blooming. Kostas I tried to shoot some samples tonight (Tokina AF 19-35 vs Pentax FA 28-70), but could not reproduce the issue...

That does sound like the separation others talk about. That's the bad news. The good news is that you can now justify buying an FA28-105 f/3.2-4.5 (Around $200, if you can find one somewhere) or a DA16-45 f/4 (expensive, moderate size, but very nice). Me, I have both. ;) Patrice LACOUTURE
