For the past several years I've been keeping photo-related records
in a crude database made of linked Excel spreadsheets. Despite
performance issues and the nagging feeling that I really, really
ought to replace so crufty a kludge with something that uses a

I suspect that this has to be a new record price for a crappy old manual focus

$1377(US) for a SMCP-A* 85/1.4 probably is a new record. Very few of these
crappy old manual focus lenses are sold on eBay, and it seems that every
one sold in the last 7 or 8 months has commanded a higher price. I have
observed the following: $885 in 2004-08; $1070 in 2004-09; $1128 and $1377
It does make you wonder, when the ad copy for this lens says, This
would be a wonderful wide angle lens for your Pentax 35mm system!

. Of course I had to blow up the ebay photo 300% to see what I
was buying.

Stupid question. Is the A 85/1.4 significantly superior to the FA 85/1.4?
The FA is listing new for $800 on BH and the 77 LTD for $690.

If lenses can be classed as cool, the A*85mm f/1.4 would be frozen solid.
A classification automatically excluding silver-black lenses like the
FA*85/1.4
