Hi Jostein,
Thanks for your response.
Your list of lens ID,s contains a lens that I had: the Sigma 10-20mm
with lens ID 152.3 (according to your list)
I have a picture taken with a K5 and this Sigma 10-20mm.
When I read its metadata with the little program "PhotoMe", it shows
lens ID: 3 44 (and not the 152.3 of your list)
When I import this photo into lightroom, the lens is named: "Sigma or
Tamron lens"
Many Sigma lenses have the lens ID "3 44"
My understanding is that LR translates the ID "3 44" into the name
"Sigma or Tamron lens"
LR uses its file "cameraraw.dll" to do this.
When I open this cameraraw file with the little program HxD, I found the
"3 44" and the wording "Sigma or Tamron lens"
As I have only one Sigma lens in possession with the ID "3 44" , I
changed the wording in the cameraraw file in: "Sigma 10-20mm /4-5.6 EX"
From now on, my pictures taken with this lens, get the correct name at
importing.
The cameraraw file I have is the most recent of Lightroom CC classic.
According my understanding, if Lightroom is using the cameraraw file for
naming, it could name many lenses, but not Nikon and Canon, because I do
not see their names in the CRfile.
So, what is it what I do not know?????
I hope someone on the list knows what I donot know of this issue.?

Hi Jos,
You are deeper into the code than I have ever ventured, but I know
that Adobe needs to decode the so-called Makernote-tags in EXIF to
extract info about lenses.
I know from experience that some lens codes between Sigma and Pentax
overlap, so maybe the .dll contains code to try to discern between
lenses based on multiple tags. That would at least explain why the
brand names show up in a pre-compiled library.
It would not surprise me at all if the large brands have implemented
lens-ID encoding in such a way as to be unique, self-contained, and by
such and algorithm that the lens names can be extracted without
ambiguity. Take, for example, a look at how the Canon lens-IDs are
sorted in EXIF here:

Dear group,
I was looking into the cameraraw.dll file to correct the lensname of
some of my SIGMA lenses.
I noticed that there are lensnames for Pentax, Sigma, Tamron and some
more brands, but not for Canon or Nikon.
My question is: how is the lensnaming for Canon and Nikon applied in
Lightroom, is there another system than applied for Pentax?
