I've never had to deal with plumbing in winter, but I have had my
furnace die (at two different places) on the coldest day of the year.

Shouldn't have to break up any concrete floors like Paul is having to
do; just tear out one wall in the kitchen. Of course, it would be the
one wall with all the counters, cabinets & the sink.
