Along that line, I recently framed a real nice old Pentax LX ad for my
office. It looks great on the wall. I think I'm going to do a grouping of
three different Pentax ads once I find two other nice ones. Actually I didn't
exactly frame it, I just put it behind glass with one of those
Fred, would you have a Modern or Popular Photography tes report on
the Fujica GS645? It would be around 1984.
No, sorry, Jeff - I only have on hand items that I clipped out of
magazines because they were important to me at the time - I don't
tens to keep entire old issues. Maybe someone else

however the main attraction of this lens (for me) is the
constant F2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range.
A constant f/2.8 is indeed nice - both for constancy and for speed.
And I should
Fred,
Thanks for putting up the 28/1.9 blow up and the 35-85 ads,
I love seeing that stuff.

Does this lens come in screw mount and/or K-mount?
Both.
If in K-mount, does it have any electrical contacts like a PK-A lens? Or is
it just like an old K lens?
It's just like an old K lens.

Hmmm. One of my Super Programs is in the shop again for the same reason as
before: I've damaged the autodiaphragm mechanism. And what lens is stuck in
it and must be removed by the repair shop? The Vivitar Series 1 90-180/4.5
Flat Field Macro Zoom. Coincidence?

Yeah, I do, too, Steve. That's why I still have that stuff - g.
By the way, I have saved quite a few of my favorite ads, Pentax and
3rd-party (especially VS1) from the 70's and 80's, and I ought to do

Hello all! Been a while since I was on this list (tho thus far I'm mainly
a
reader, not an active participant in the discussions)
So I was wondering what you folks had to say about the Vivitar Series 1
35-85 F2.8
It's not off-topic to ask about a lens that can be used on a Pentax body.
List members do it all the time.
I was surprised to discover that I've collected no comments on this lens.
It has 12 elements in 9 groups; uses VMC multicoating; can close focus to
10.2 inches; reaches a max.
I found a couple comments about this lens:
Warren Kato ([EMAIL PROTECTED]), on Olympus discussion site, 10 March 1999:
The Vivitar 35-85/2.8 is an amazingly contrasty lens producing sharp
looking photos. It's part of my BIG kit, Series 1 35-85, 135/2.3, 200/3
and Zuiko 300/4.5. All take 72

if it hasn't been modified it will still have a protrusion on the
rear that will mark the panel above the reflex mirror when mounted
on an LX. Otherwise its a great lens albeit big, lower contrast
than comparable Pentax glass but very sharp with a usable close
focus at the wide end.
Say,

Vivitar did make some gems. Too bad they didn`t continue with it.
I blame Bob Monaghan for my addiction.

Unfortunately my LX has the marks to prove it :-(
Yes, one of my LX's has a couple of cosmetic marks on the flat
black paint of its mirror box baffle. After performing the minor
mod to the lens, though, it is not a problem for that LX or any
other.
No Pentax lens has marked my bodies :-)
[Oops - somehow I posted this first to another thread - this is
where it belongs.]
The baffle scratched and bent in that black thingy on my LX the
first time I mounted it, didn`t seem to hurt anything, so I just
left it. I never did file the baffle down, as the damage was done.

Geez, I just jump into this thread that's been going for several days,
