there are only six depressions on the camera side of my TC. They look

Thanks William,
That certainly seems to be the explanation. Ah well, it works just
fine in manual mode so I doubt I'll bother getting it repaired.

I recently purchased a Pentax-A 1.4X-L TC and I'm having problems getting
it to communicate aperture settings to my K10D.
When I attach my Pentax-A 400mm F5.6 to it, and mount them on my K10D the
display shows the aperure as 'F--'. I also have a cheap Sakar 1.4X TC and
when I use that the
Fred,
Sounds like you have a bum A setting mechanism.
Usually, stuff sticks out on my A1.4X-S.
And no, the LX would have no problems because it doesn't know how to
use A lenses.

Fred,
It sounds like the signal doesn't conduct properly through the TC. It
could be a loose fit (as is the case for one of my lenses...), it
could be just dirty contact points, or it could be something more
seriously wrong inside the TC...
Have you tried cleaning the contacts on all the bayonet
Of course he had no issues using it on the LX. The LX is a pure K
mount, no electronic communication going on there at all. I have had a
problem with a cheap CPC, (Pentax made non multi-coated), TC with both
my *ist-D and Ds. It used to work fine transmitting data to my MZ-3 and
ZX-5n.
Hmmm. My K10D and A4005.6 work fine with the A 2X-S converter. By the
way, the A 400/5.6 and the L converter are supposedly incompatible.
Doesn't the snout of the converter hit the lens baffling?

Thanks for the responses.
My mistake about the LX - I thought it supported 'A' lenses.
Jostein - I've tried cleaning the contacts but without success.
Paul - According to an online copy of the manual at
http://www.pentax-manuals.com/manuals/accessories/accessmanuals.htm
the 1.4X-L is compatible
Fred,
I'm not Paul, but A1.4X-S is configured like so...
On the lens side, 3 balls out, one flat, then 2 ball out (reading clockwise)
On the camera side 2 depressions, one pin out, then 3 more depression
contacts (clockwise)
The pin out is just that. It's a movable pin in the middle of a
teflon
Thanks Bob,
That's very interesting.
