I don't know where we were when we had a PDML meet for the airshow
(although some of the other attendees can probably tell you), but
it seemed to work fairly well if you had a long lens:

Based on the perspective of Alcatraz
Fleet Week and the Blue Angels are returning to San Francisco this
coming weekend. Can those who have photographed this event here in
the past (John Celio? J McAllister?) share the locations you used?
I shoot from next to the small building here:
I paid money to get a seat in the front row of the seated and enclosed
area just west of Ft. Mason, north of all the kiddy rides on Marina
Green Drive. On Sunday, I paid for reserved seats, with brunch and
drinks, seating and chatting with the SF elite on the corner of MGD
and the Marina.
Yeah, I've been out there by the buildings before. In the last two
years, I was getting beaten by the boaters. I was hoping for a higher
vantage point, such as up the Fort Mason Park hill.

Great shot! But I see masts galore, which we were trying to avoid.
(Not that I'll be there)

Most of the air display is at higher altitude, so the masts aren't a
problem. It's basically only the low and slow flyover by Fat Albert
that gets a lot of masts in the shot (which would have been better if
I'd used a slower shutter speed to blur the props more).
John Celio got some pretty good
