This reminds me of something I'd rather forget. In the old Praktika days,

I understand now.
It could still be the tension spring, but the jamming at full aperture
worries me.
I have a bad feeling

Look at the diaphragm blades, is there any oil on them? There shouldn't
be.
The diaphragm has to close very quickly when the camera takes a picture.
Set the aperture ring to F22. Push and release the diaphragm lever, how
long did it take to close?
If there's oil on the blades a good camera repair

I don't know what's normal for this lens as I've never seen one. If
it has an A position on the aperture ring, it should lock there.
But your
Tim, I'm not clear on what the lens is doing, let me ask a couple of
questions:
1. With the lens OFF the camera set the aperture ring to f/16, does the lens
stop down to a small aperture? Does tapping it with your fingers help?
2. Still set at f/16 rotate the aperture control lever on the back

Don.
1. No. And tapping does not help; the only thing helping is to move the
aperture control lever manually.

I dunno about you, but if it's a lens I really like and it has a
fault, I have it serviced professionally. I'm a photographer, not a
camera repair technician.
