Yes, you have to rotate it. It eliminates reflections, so the time to
use it is when there are a lot of reflections around, eg sunlight on
water, or reflections off glossy leaves. You can preview the effect by
watching it through the viewfinder. The effect is

Well,
I just scanned a couple of rolls of Kodak Black + White chromogenic film and
then a roll of TMax. First glance, the chromogenic scans ok, but the TMax
scans extremely grainy. The lab prints of both look about the same as far
as grain is concernced but my scanner (Minolta Scan Dual II)

35mm is my favorite focal length for general photography. I like the perspective
better than a Normal lens. I also like the speed of an f2 version, as it allows me
to shoot in many of the spots walking around lands me in.
