Re: Inexpensive Pentax AC adapter

2017-08-10 Thread John

There's an old cliché, "You get what you pay for".

Which I think doesn't mean that literally; so much as it means cheap
stuff doesn't last.

I wouldn't expect the Pentax AC adapter to fail and need replacing, and
I wouldn't worry about the Pentax adapter damaging my camera if it did fail.

On 8/9/2017 22:17, P. J. Alling wrote:

Assuming the Voltage regulator's failure mode is automatic cutoff, it

I've looked at the HQRP a couple of times but always held back on a
purchase, because, while, the Pentax OEM is definitely over priced, the
price for the HQRP seems to be too good to be true.

GESO - A trip through time at GFM

Here's an unusually large gallery (of unusually small photos — 800px

I've managed to include at least one photo from every year from 2001
(my first year at the event) through 2017. Lots of familiar faces and
a few that I miss.

It's a bit rough and ready at the moment, so it'll only stay up
temporarily. I'll move it to a permanent location on my site when I've
had time to do a little polishing.

You can watch LIVE coverage from Alaska's Brooks River in Katmai National
Park. Every year over a hundred Brown Bears descend on a mile long stretch
of Brooks River to feast on the largest Sockeye Salmon run in the world.

Right now, one can see salmon trying to jump over the falls, and grizzlies
in the river looking for a meal.

Every message I receive using Thunderbird has a "Junk" button I can

They have a "Not Junk" button I can click, but nothing that lets me
confirm "Yes, this *IS* Junk."

I've tried the "customize buttons" route like we discovered for the
recent "Reply - Reply List" problem. No joy there.

that's because a the button is a toggle; on those messages, Thunderbird
already believes "yes, this is junk" **unless** you click Not Junk

How much time are we going to spend talking about John's junk?

Except that if you just click delete, it puts it in "trash" rather than
"junk".

The only way to get it to go into "junk" so the adaptive junk control
will work is to go up into the message pane, right click the message and
scroll down through the menu to find "Mark as Junk".

Subject: Re: Inexpensive Pentax AC adapter

2017-08-10 Thread Bipin Gupta
One hears these adages quite often like "You pay what you get for", "Cheap" etc.
Is it true?? NOT for the smart guy - or call him frugal, Mr. Scrooge
if you wish.
Cheap need not mean it will damage your camera or fail.

So here is what I did. Bought a German Hama SMPS Multi Volt Adapter for $12
on sale from Media Mart while in Cologne, Germany.
SMPS (switched mode power supply units) are one of the safest circuitry used in
digital equipment & electronics. This one had a 3-way safety circuit.

Bought the Connector Pentax uses for $ 2.40 each - called the Male Hirose 3-pin
MQ172-3SA Plug. God alone knows why Pentax uses obscure stuff and not
simple Japanese Standard Connectors.

Soldered two thick copper pins which plugs into the Universal Socket of the Hama
Adapter. Works great on my Pentax DSLRs.

Note: wiring the Hirose connector - the center pin is a dummy, the Ground pin is
top most one viewed with the plug inserted into the camera. The 8.3 volt pin is
the bottom most one.

Regards.
