Re: Some people are just crazy

2016-05-20 Thread Paul Stenquist
I think it's great, and it certainly belongs on Facebook. On the other hand I
realize that the social mores of some differ from mine and from the moral code
of our contemporary society. They're not crazy, just different. It's odd that
the modern world is quick to condemn those who disparage others because their
religion or skin color is different but we think it's perfectly okay to mock
those whose moral code differs from our own and categorize them as crazy.
Another example of how political correctness has failed us.

I simply noted a reference to LR "exposure compensation" and it set me to

what it might uniquely offer.

I don't see an "exposure compensation" control in Lightroom. Only exposure.
No matter: it's a bias-offset adjustment for all values in the image and does
what the exposure compensation adjustment on your camera does: raises the
values by the same offset across the board.

Brightness in PS does essentially what the Whites slider in LR does when using
the Process 2012 (Current) controls: it is a curves adjustment affecting the
upper half of the Tone Curve histogram, but doesn't allow you to pull pixel
values over the set white point, which is established by the Exposure slider.

FSF: Lenses and More Lenses

2016-05-20 Thread Bill

I still have some very desirable lenses up for grabs.

20-40 209 $500.0

15 LTD 228 $375.00

21mm 368$300.00

35mm LTD 584 $325.00

40mm 717$200.00

70mm 4327 $350.00

60-250 1201 $800.00

Again, the number beside the focal length is the number of pictures
Lightroom says I have shot with that particular one.
All are in very good, lightly used condition, no fungus, and clean
glass, with very little internal dust.

According to a couple of list members, I have undervalued them.

Really, you should do yourself a favour and buy one or more of these
lenses, you won't be sorry.

Terms of sale are below:

I am the original owner of all of them.

They will come with their original hoods, and both front and rear lens
caps, though I will not guarantee that the rear caps are original. I
might have to send one or two out with knock off caps.
They all work, I live in a dry climate, so fungus is not an issue, all
have normal amounts of dust internally. They have all been gently and
quite lightly used and have not been abused.

Lenses will come in their original boxes.

Lenses are sold on an as is basis, I guarantee that they work properly
when boxed for shipment.
Shipping will be at the buyers expense, I will ship at actual cost using
buyer's preferred conveyance, and at buyer's risk.

Paypal is a suitable means of payment, and funds must be received in
full prior to shipment.

Replying to this email indicates acceptance of my terms of sale.

Thanks

I measured with the lens focus. it’s 45 feet to the feeders. I can get closer,

PESOs Angry Red

2016-05-20 Thread Paul Stenquist
This guy was yelling at me from high up in an oak tree. K-1, 150-450, A2XS
converter, 900mm, f11, 1/2000th. ISO 3200. Pushed 1.5 and 1 stops in post,
respectively. So we're looking at ISO 9600 and 6400, respectively. The K-1
makes a lot of things possible, that were once impossible, at least for me. I
could have gone to a slower shutter speed of course, but I didn’t have time to
fiddle, and the sky background changed the exposure radically.

Hello there...

My brother brought me Leica to m43 adapter by Panasonic. I also have
Pentax K to Leica adapter by Novoflex. So, I took my A 50/1.2 for a
walk today. It turns out that infinity focus is at about 15 m (beyond
10 m mark on lens focus scale, but quite far from infinity mark). This
is not good, but beside that, pictures come out just fine.

Using this lens even at f1.2 and getting accurate focus is
extraordinarily easy... The view finder (being really nice and
comfortable for me EVF) shows in-focus transition really clearly.
Also, on-demand magnification and focus peaking help a lot.

Here are some pictures to back up my words with actions:

Very nice silhouette photos!

I think _IMG1376.jpg (the 3rd one, with the two boats only) is the most
appealing to the emotions, while the first one (the guy fishing),
_IMG1421.jpg, is the best from the technical point of view.

The last two protraits, especially the very last one are very nice, as you
get caught those people looking into the camera in a very casual way,
which creates the "interaction" (and before they all tensed up, trying to
pose for the shot).

I'm not interested in starting another nauseating "film vs. digital" thread.

Its an opinion I have about those with a P+S or cell phone that think
they're a photographer.

Good photography is still good photography and bad photography is still bad
photography regardless of what is used and who pushes the shutter release.

I've come to the conclusion that I will not have an opportunity to do
much wet processing of older
photos, particularly given the size of the archive, which goes back 49
years! So, now I am scanning
only those worth preserving and probably leaving to my son, as they will
be the main family history
photos. The link below is of a shot I just scanned from 1972 - I think
the quality holds up well.

Wonderful image & project.

I'm going through the images I took when I was small and family photos. I've
decided not to make a call on what is worth doing and what isn't, and I'm
just plodding through doing the lot as and when I have spare time. At the
moment my boys don't see any real importance in family history or photos,
and assume it will take care of itself in the future. It won't. I'm doing
them now and sending those applicable to other parts of the (now somewhat
geographically spread) family. Someone, at some future point may find them
of interest. The real issue is getting sidetracked by some images!

PESO - from the archives

I've come to the conclusion that I will not have an opportunity to do much wet
processing of older
photos, particularly given the size of the archive, which goes back 49 years!
So, now I am scanning
only those worth preserving and probably leaving to my son, as they will be the
main family history
photos. The link below is of a shot I just scanned from 1972 - I think the
quality holds up well.
