Some websites are just poorly coded too. If they have videos and lots
of embeds running its pretty easy to eat up your processor quickly.
Chrome often surprises me with how much CPU it uses.

Malformed adverts.  I've had web pages with such horrible scripts that 
they hang the web browser and require a restart.  That's the main reason 
I've employed an ad blocker.  I can ignore the ads.

Recently—a day or two ago—I noticed that my MacBook Air was emitting a 
low-pitched hissing sound, as if a fan were running. I first noticed this when 
I had been processing photos in Lightroom for a while. But I’m experiencing it 
now and all I have open are Safari and Mail. 

I ran Activity Monitor and found two tasks that were using a high percentage of 
CPU. One was a kernel task. The other showed the web address of The Atlantic 
Magazine, which I had open at the time. The percent of CPU it was using ranged 
between the mid-50s and the mid-90s. 

I killed that process, the Atlantic page was reloaded, and the fan noise has 
stopped. Why would a web page use so much processor capacity?

The red of this flower is indeed quite dark, something I wanted to convey,
and something that made other attempts to capture it fail.  I purposely
included the bud, to show \the two phases of the plant that I like, but I
see your point and accept your criticism, which I find quite useful.

Since people keep asking how I got the photos, here is a photo of the

I found that I have a bit more success if I draw the drapes closed so
