Mac OS Monterey versus Kensington trackball

A few days ago I sat down at my Mac Mini to look up some old photos in 
Lightroom.

To my surprise, they weren’t in the catalog. They weren’t in the appropriate 
folder on the desktop, either.

Sniffing around, I found that scores of other photos had vanished, too, from 
both my computer and my Time Machine backup. However, they were present in my 
Backblaze backup.

Suspecting a Lightroom malfunction, I tried to upgrade it; but a LR upgrade 
required an OS upgrade (from Mojave). The only choice Apple provided was 
Monterey. So, I backed up everything and let the installation run overnight.

The next morning (yesterday), the installation was finished. However, my 
Kensington trackball wouldn’t work. After three long calls to the Kensington 
help line, it still doesn’t work: the cursor moves around, but clicks do 
nothing.

I’m using an old mouse now, but I would much rather use the trackball. 

Any suggestions?

The big challenge is going to be reflections. It would be like photographing 
metal or glass in that way. Think of it as being made of a mirror and think 
about what you would see in a mirror of that shape.  You would probably want 
something dark that would increase contrast with what is underneath rather than 
something light.  Also, you will want to be very careful about how you place 
the lights to minimize reflections.

If you are processing with something like lightroom, it seems to me that you 
could gel the lights some color that isn’t that of the guitar (blue or green) 
and dial the blue way down in post.  Not the green channel, just everything 
that is green.

A few years ago I did a nice violin shot in b That was fun.

Recently I’ve re-started playing guitar and would like to shoot it in b 
(classical)

Any thoughts or examples on lighting, display, and such? Much appreciated.

(Also, just finished my second round of Covid. August was pretty rough. This 
time around, not so bad.)

Wife wanted to watch the remake of Sabrina. Harrison Ford version. Meh.

It appears that all, certainly most, of the cameras used were Pentax.

It began with a 6x7 fashion shoot. And lots of 35mm work. I may have missed 
some non-P stuff there.
