RE: what is a shift lens?

2001-10-19 Thread Collin Brendemuehl
This is an interesting lens design. Pentax' lens is wider than the Canon Minolta offerings I've seen. (28mm vs 35mm) But, there's a trade-off The Canon does tilt and shift. The Minolta does both vertical and later shifts. This is one of those very rare instances where the lens requirement

Pentax leadership

2001-10-22 Thread Collin Brendemuehl
Sure, Pentax was a leader (hand-in-hand) with Nikon in the 60s. People seemed to like Nikon's bayonet mount but Pentax' lenses (from conversations I've had with a handful of oldtimers). But the technology era that began around 1980 is different than what happened earlier. Today, one-year

2001-10-25 Thread Collin Brendemuehl
The impression that I've gotten is that this is the beginning of a general upgrading of the MZ/ZX line, at least with respect to features. Being consistent with other terminology: MZ-S == Super MZ-L == Luxury (prediction here) MZ-I == Intermediate MZ-M == Manual, basic model Given the term

RE: DOF and format size

2001-10-26 Thread Collin Brendemuehl
Almost, guys. DOF is based on the diameter of the aperture. f is a function of relative light availability, not DOF. It is an exposure function only. Take your 50/1.4 lens. (roughly speaking) Lens diameter x 1.4 = film plane diagonal. A lens of f1.4 on a 4x5 would be about 4.5 in diameter!
