Anybody has an experience with the FA 24/2? I'm ordering it already, but
I don't like surprises (bad ones). Should I expect similar performance
as those from 43/1.9 and 77/1.8? Also, can the battery pack FG20 accept
rechargeable NiMH?
Btw, sorry steve, me cheap too.

yrs ago started Pentax system. My gear: *ist with
43/1.9, MZ-3 with 77/1.8. Also got a 300/4.5, and 70-200/4-5.6. That's
why I need that 24/2 badly! I'm not satisfied with any of Nikon's 24.
But Nikon has excellent 28s though (MF).

Too bad I have no web sites. My country has nothing
). Seems like Pentax has more resolution to resolve. Of course
Nikon system is very extensive and I still do a lot of macro/product
shots that still is the forte of Nikon.
I will try to borrow a film scanner and scan some of my Pentax images
later.
Cheers,

I don't know about the 70-200
Hi Ryan,
I'm back in Jakarta already. I think MZ-S does not have enough feature
for me to abandon my *ist. The *ist is a capable camera with excellent
AF.
Now I'm back in Jakarta already!
Thanks

focus with your subject regardless it's position. It's just
a tad slow, and if it's faster, I think we have a winner - with price of
course. So I won't ask more from a $300 camera body. It's GREAT!

How about pre-A compatibility? Can't be that hard or that expensive.

. Replacing batteries is also awkward because we have to
detach the BP from the body.
Nevertheless, the grip is a bit better and balanced well with larger

Hi all,
Anyone knows the quality of Pentax A 35/2.8? Is it any good?
Thanks
Winston
I could not find matching silver filters for my Limiteds, so I just put
on the B+W UV0 filters. Ugly looking though (thick and black). Last year
I found a store in Singapore that had B+W Kaesemann Cir. Polarizer in
49mm, I bought it and it's great! A must for the 77.

Gosh, I would not pay the cost of G5 for the speed it offers. The
fastest G5 with dual processor is not even close to my dual Opteron
2.0GB. I use this machine extensively for doing advertising and photo
editing. It offers 64-bit, but I don't really care since Windows 64 is
not yet available until

Neither would I... not in this country anyway.
OTOH Virginia Tech got a pretty good bang for their bucks
, and
definitely this is the best lens I have.
The only limitation is the slow AF, but it focuses manually almost like
a real MF.
I just need to buy that 31mm to satisfy my thirst of complete LTD lens,
but the price keeps me away from getting it!

77mm is still in a good portrait
Personally I think 85 is more for portraits due to smoother bokeh. The
77 is a bit harsh (or 'sharp') in this case. So 77 is more suitable for
general picture taking because of its compact size. Nevertheless, both
are great.
As for the availability, same thing here, I ordered my 43 and 77
should be great! I
think it equals to 21mm on 35mm.
Cheers

Yup, the 85 is much more intimidating - although FA 85/1.4 is the
smallest compared to Nikon's gigantic 85/1.4 and Canon's 85/1.2. Unless
you put the 'show off' factor into the shopping list, the FA 85/1.4 is
still ok :)
I haven't used either lens, but since the original poster mentioned

under construction.
How's weather there?

lost mine in Spain (with an MZ5 attached). Or a 24-90 if possible.

I notice that this lens is often discussed or mentioned in this list. Is
it good? How does it compare to Nikon's 15 or newer 14? Compared to
Hologon?
Apparently, the A 15mm is still available as well, though mine has
been delayed again, and isn't scheduled to arrive until late this
month.
Man, at $900 it should feel good!

It's not that bad
I'm really curious, because usually a lens this wide has its own
limitations but often makes a spectacular view. I mean, if Pentax is
still selling this lens, it should be good. How much do you pay for it?
I've just got my D70 (cheaper than *ist D), and because of the 1.5x
factor, my widest lens

Perhaps I should clarify. By soft I did not mean less sharp, but the
milky appearance. I don't know the proper way/word to describe it
though.

Unlike amateur series, F100 belongs to the pro line of Nikon camera body
which uses F instead of N for US market.

I'll second that. 43 is an excellent lens, it's just that the optimum
performance comes 'late' at f/8-f/11. The 77 is another story though,
extremely sharp from wide opened, and even at close focusing distance. I
wished Pentax makes something wider than 31mm and longer than 100mm
Limited lenses.

I get the impression that this is fairly typical for Pentax designs.

As I understand it, distortion is _inevitable_ in a lens
as wide as 24mm, which is why, for example, a 35mm is better
for group portraits.

Most fast teles are designed to be optimum at wide f-stops. Stopping
down to f/8 usually will only improve the edge very slighty - unless we

shaky/blurry picture. Shooting at f/8 is not a complete madness, of

Hm
But the good news (for me), is that I still like to use this lens when
traveling due to great color and sharpness (at f/8-f/11). Makes focusing
easier on my dim *ist (35mm) VF.
