The wildflowers were amazing throughout the mountains during our trip.
This scene inspired me to say I'm gonna break all the rules and shoot
*into* the sun. (I'm such a rebel...) There was one little flare spot
that was easily touched up in Lightroom (except for the stitched pano,
all the shots I've shown from Italy have been Lightroom-processed-only
 - no Photoshop necessary)

I didn't wait for the cloud to come across the sun, but I probably
wouldn't have taken a shot if there hadn't been some cloud in front of
the sun at the time. (I normally hate jet contrails spoiling my photos
but in this case I kind of like them.)

I wouldn't know!

It's mostly see, compose, grab one or two shots and then try to catch
up for me. Knowing your gear and having a range of settings ready to
use is very helpful. Also, having plenty of ideas in mind, both for
photos and for problem-solving strategies, is essential for travel

RE: Another shot from Italy: Wildflowers

2013-07-26 Thread Gerrit Visser
It just seems to be like drinking out of a fire hose when we travel. We get
5-8 hours to 'see' a port or nearby city, usually with minimal ability to
plan as guide books do not spend much time on port cities. We now avoid tour
buses, taking small private tours, tuktuks, taxis whatever instead which
helps a lot. Esp when you can find others who actually want to take photos
instead of snaps with photo frames (iPads) through dirty bus windows at
60kmh.

I probably do a lot more thinking about my photos as I take them than I
realize. Thankfully my wife now has a K100D instead of a PS and she has a
great eye for photo ops.
I only threw out about 10% of our shots this trip, which still leaves 1
to sort out!
