Actually, I gave up tournament chess to focus on economics. I was no Ken Rogoff (grandmaster, then leading international trade/finance economist), but I was pretty good. Second, Colander is a little too abstract. He leaves out the specific role of the NBER nomenklatura within the economics profession. I don't there can be a successful critique of the internal dynamics of the economic profession without a close look at the self-perpetuating NBER power structure. Peter
