I still think it is too early to say... we should consider the simple possibility that Obama is a young, non-pedigreed (in blue blood sense) -- and yet a product of the meritocracy (in the Harvard sense) -- black man who has been (even against his wishes) cast as a Messiah by his followers while at the same time subject to the return of naked racism and bigotry ... and with this baggage, I would assume, comes a sense of great trepidation and uncertainty, which manifests itself in the grim, clipped style of speech and expression, the progressive step forward followed by a turnaround to safer ground. BTW, Carrol's post on movements and individuals was absolutely brilliant. I call for a Henwood mediated and moderated debate on Obama between Proyect and Huato somewhere in the city or surroundings!
