Re: [Phono-L] shipwrecked phonograph and records
The REALLY eerie thing about this discovery was that a Vernon Dalhart record entitled - The Wreck of the A J Goddard was found along with the Len Spencer record... proving that Vernon was a time traveler!!! The crew got so depressed listening to the fortelling of their misfortune, that they actually scuttled the steamship. Seems silly to try to recapture the old sounds, since the records were mass produced. Surely if the titles can be identified, similar records could be found. Or, am I not understanding something? The records appear to unplayable, although they were able to tell what the titles were, they did not say what make and model of 1890's phonograph was found . - Original Message - From: Andrew Baron a...@popyrus.com To: Antique Phonograph List phono-l@oldcrank.org Sent: Monday, March 28, 2011 5:19:07 PM Subject: [Phono-L] shipwrecked phonograph and records Did anyone catch this? http://www.montrealgazette.com/technology/Shipwrecked+music/4509626/story.html Andy Baron ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org ___ Phono-L mailing list http://phono-l.oldcrank.org
Re: [Phono-L] shipwrecked phonograph and records
It looks like it was a front mount machine, something like a Standard Model X. I see what appears to be two nuts such as were used to fasten the support arm. A picture of the motor would probably be very useful.
