Photark team,
We have not yet heard from Suho about Prabhath Suminda's project. If
any of you can send me (privately!) the answers to the questions
below, as well as a summary of your involvement with the project, I
would be most grateful!
Suho, please submit the evaluation AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, and get in
touch with me directly when you've done so.
Thank you,
Noirin

If you are on the To: of this email, your final evaluations are LATE.
Please enter them in Melange AS SOON AS POSSIBLE.
If these are not entered in the next 24hrs, you jeopardise future
participation in GSoC for the whole Foundation. Additionally, your
students will not be paid.

Quick reminder: the suggested pencils down date to finish GSoC
coding is next Monday, 13th August. The HARD finish date is Monday,
20th August.
Please note that YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS MUST HAVE YOUR FINAL
EVALUATIONS COMPLETED IN MELANGE BY NOON UTC ON AUGUST 23RD. This IS
EARLIER than the deadline in the GSoC calendar, so that I have time to
check all the evaluations and make sure everything is in order. (North
American mentors: I know noon UTC is probably not your favourite time
of day. Sorry. There's no time that works for everyone.)
Again, note that YOUR STUDENTS must also have completed THEIR final
evaluations by this date. Please pass on this information!
Mentor evaluation questions are included at the end of this email. I'm
afraid I don't have the student evaluation questions. This evaluation
must be completed by the mentor assigned in Melange--if you need to
switch mentors for any reason, please let me know.
IF YOU MISS THIS DEADLINE, YOUR PMC WILL NOT BE ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE
STUDENTS NEXT YEAR. This is a new requirement, and may seem harsh, but
Google have imposed very strict requirements on the orgs to get their
evaluations in on time, and you are jeopardizing participation for the
whole Foundation if you fail to meet this deadline.
If you will not be able to complete the evaluation during this period,
please let me know as soon as possible, and send me your evaluation of
the student by email BEFORE AUGUST 20TH.
Thanks,
Noirin

Pencils Down and Final Evaluation Dates Approaching
To: Google Summer of Code Mentors List

Hi there,
This is a friendly reminder that Monday, 13 August is our soft
pencils down date. We suggest that students have completed their
projects by this date and spend a week writing documentation and
wrapping up their projects. We require that students stop all coding
on 20 August.
Monday, 20 August at 19:00 UTC is also when final evaluations open.
Please consider this your reminder to submit your final evaluation by
24 August at 19:00 UTC so that you don't delay your students' final
payments or possibly jeopardize your organization's attendance at the
mentor summit.
I have updated the code submission guidelines [0] and posted it on
Melange for your reference. Code submission begins once students have
received a passing grade on their final evaluations (after 24 August).
The deadline is 14 September. One question students ask a lot is what
portion of their code to submit if they made changes to an existing
code base or their code interacts a lot with a system they didn't
write. The answer is: use your best discretion. Have them submit the
code that makes the most sense from a user's perspective. If students
need help with code submission they should contact the Melange team at
melange-soc-...@googlegroups.com.
I have posted the questions for the final evaluations below as well
for your reference.

How would you rate the student’s performance on his/her project since
the midterm evaluations?
It has improved since the midterm
It has stayed the same since the midterm
It has gotten worse since the midterm
Considering your student’s original project proposal, how closely does
the project produced reflect the project proposed?
It’s almost exactly the same - there have been very few changes to the
project
It’s similar - there have been some changes over the course of the summer
It’s different - we changed the goals or scope of the project
It’s different - the student diverged from the project plan
How much time have you spent on Google Summer of Code since the
midterm evaluations (again, take into consideration both time
mentoring the student and working on the program as a whole)?
10-15 hours per week
15-20 hours per week
20-25
