Since PHPLDAPADMIN is just a frontend to your LDAP server, they are
obviously stored in your OpenLDAP-Server.

See http://www.openldap.org/doc/admin23/dbtools.html for info on the
"slapcat" utility. It dumps your LDAP database to a text file that then
can be backed up. Restore is via "slapadd", after deleting leftover
DB-Files. At least thats how we do it, to avoid having to back up an
active database.

The location of the DB files is configured in the OpenLDAP Server
configuration file "slapd.conf".
