It seems that gdm runs shutdown(8) on tty7, but then switches to tty0.
The effect is that the user sees its shutting down message, but then
no further messages until power is turned off. I actually

The icons picked by the Run Application window are quite ugly and do not
scale up very well. It looks like it's using the lower quality XPM icons
rather than the PNG ones.
