WMA tracks will not play on Softsqueeze using Linux
This problem has been reported before -
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=25117, and is due to a
problem on mplayer.sh.
There are 2 solutions, both given by bpa on thread 25117 post #7 if you
use Mplayer pre8, or by modifying
I don't know the numbers very well but I think [EMAIL PROTECTED] is normally
good enough for FLAC so if you selected only MP3 for RTSP streams and
you are getting choppy audio then the problem is probably not simple
signal strength.
A better description of choppy audio would help especially
The issue was discussed for 1.06 but no definitive comprehensive
solution was agreed and so it is still on the AlienBBC buglist and is
not forgotten.
The solution suggested has its own drawback - I think it can stop users
playing RealAudio files.

Check your JVM version. Not sure what system you're on but at the
command prompt of your OS, type 'java - version'. It should report a
version of 1.5.*. If not go to Sun's website java.sun.com and download
their latest non-beta JVM at this level.

I've recently upgraded to Slimserver 6.5 and installed the newest
versions of the SlimScrobbler and LastFM plugins.
I've noticed that my track submissions for Last.FM don't appear to be
working for tracks played on the SoftSqueeze.
Is this known behavior or is this a bug? Did a search and came
I must sheepishly admit that a typo caused this problem, please
disregard my thread.

I am currently thinking about the same problem. My idea to solve this is
to do a little enhancement to the SlimScrobbler code:
- the library includes multiple genre tags
- additional to the musical styles all tracks have genre tags for
Sebastian (= husband) and/or Katja (= wife)
- therefore it
I've just posted a new version of iTunes Update: 1.9.0
New in this release is support for the Skip Count and Last Skipped
fields found in iTunes 7.
If a track does not qualify as being played, it will be marked as
skipped *unless* playback is paused or the player has been turned off.
This is a
Oh, and of course the latest version of SlimScrobbler allows for
switching submissions from individual players on and off both from the
player and the web interface...

Thanks much Richard.
The newest version works well on Mac OS X 10.4.8. I still have a
small problem with AlienBBC not working on Softsqueeze, but working
fine on the Squeezebox 3. No clue what the issue is

bpa 'Choppy' covers a few things. First, listening to BBC4FM, there
are little pops and clicks in the stream - tiny breaks that clip off a
consonant or a syllable in a word; but not enough to interfere
seriously with intelligibility.
Then there are much rarer breaks of a few seconds, when the
Part of your problems sounds like a problem with the stream from the BBC
since it affects the live stream much more than Listen Again. You could
test this by using mplayer direct in your PC to the same source.
By their very nature, the live streams cannot buffer data in case of
network errors,
I got rid of the .dll and kept the rest. Seems to work fine AFAIK.

When I save a playlist, should that new playlist become immediately
available in the Load and Save Playlist windows?
I saved a playlist, then tried to save changes to it, but it didn't
appear in the Save Playlist window. I could see that the Playlist was

bpa I've done the test as you suggested with mplayer direct, and it
performed just as you described, as the buffer gradually depleted.
This was with BBC Radio 4 at about midnight (so very off-peak!). As I
understand what you said, this is a characteristic of local network
servers, and I guess
If you are based in the UK you could try these URL - they are BBC Live
using WMA not RealAudio streams. WMA will be handled by SB directly
and may handle network problems differently.
As I am outside the UK they do not work for me but I believe they are
very very slow to start up.
