What format is the external drive? Is it USB connected to the Pi? Have
you installed additional file systems support on pCP?
I have several Raspberry Pi servers, two of which use EXT4 formatted USB
drives, and I can access them from my MacBook without problems using
Samba. I'm not really much
And ist there any alternative to samba? It seems this problem is a
keeper, until MS either patches it, or the pCP-team changes the samba
implementation.

How can I edit /usr/local/etc/samba/smb.conf beyond what the pCP backend
allows for? I want to try something, but in ssh, vi tells me it is a
read only file and I cannot save.

I found one track on one CD which would always be displayed wrong on
Windows and OK on Linux. I think I have a fix for this issues which I
think may be the same as yours.
The decode routine I use (*Encode::decode_utf8* which is equivalent to
*Encode::decode("utf8",$str)* ) to convert string
I have reached 1.66 GB by now, so this does not seem to be a hard

Sorry just realised I was on 7.7 after reinstalling a couple of weeks
ago because of the Synology Perl issue. I've just manually installed 8

Hi folks,
it was some work to get my Samba Share from a piCorePlayer 8.1
installation going with Win10. It was necessary to reactivate SMB 1.0
support and additionally change a registry key for guest user
authentication. The drive is now listed and accessible from my Windows
10 Desktop, where I

I can get proper display for ages and then suddenly it flips into wrong

I think I narrowed it down to a library routine (which should be solid)
but I can't get bad behaviour again to confirm. I thought it might be
due to a "sleep" period or flipping CDs

and after a while, the stream stalls. This is in the server log:
