I find that when its scanning my music (about 200gb of it) for the first
time, it takes a fair while to do scan it all, and lots of CPU time as
well.

I've got the same problem, I've started looking at ABCPodcastParser.pm
as they have changed the format of the html page Alien uses to lookup
the ABC Podcasts. I'll supply a diff IF I get it working.

ok, fixed the problem, and your information helped... What was the
problem was the proxy server on smoothwall being transparent, and the
mplayer program having a fit. I'll report the error to mplayer people.
