Thanks for your interest 'NonReality' -here in UK (Bath) SKY ADSL is
part of a satellite TV package using its own 'hard-wired' Netgear
router for access -not really cheap/easy to test or replace. I'm a long
way from the Telephone Exchange -getting about 4mbps on a nominal 8mbps
connection with a

Looks like a typo the -x should be $-x$ I think - that would have sorted
the problem automatically.
To play Flac you need a sustained throughput at about 1500kbps -
anything less and the internal SB buffer will slowly empty as you
playing data at a faster rate than it is being received. As a
didn't collect your message 'til this morning. No idea why I was
double posted.
Q1. BBC stutters on both Live Listen Again (This is the stream I
want)
Q2. Network test reports 100% solid at only(?) 256kbps -high 90's at
320kpbs, falls away fairly quickly thereafter. Same result when tested
The default is to transcode RealAudio into Flac.
Flac requires about 1500kbps @ 100% to play.
Your max reliable connection speed of 256kbps is very poor even with a
wired connection so something is very wrong - either reading the test
results, your PC, your network interfaces, cables or the
AlienBBC converts a 64kbps RealAudio stream into a 1500kbps Flac stream.
All internet radio etc (including iPlayer to laptop) are slow speed
typically at most for audio 192kbps so your network speed of 256kbps
would never show this problems.
The white noise is because you have installed lame
...I also suffer! I have Alien V2.01b1_7.1 running on SqueezeCenter_7.1,
outputting (independently) to either of two SB3's. The software was
'clean' installed on my Vista32 (HP) machine (WEI scores 5.3).So it
should cope! I have no problems streaming video, BBC iPlayer, radio
etc. from my Sky
Does the problem happen on both Live and Listen Again or just Live or
just Listen Again programs ?

Since you don't want to answer my question - I'll make a suggestion.
3) It is an RSTP problem between the arrival of the signal and dispatch
to the SB. Softsqueeze plays fine on the PC.
There is no RTSP beween SC and SB. If you are using default settings
then SC-SB will be Flac. You may
Hi,
I'm actually hard wired to my Router.
Stuttering seems to have subsided slightly.
I'll do another check later on the BBC listen again service, which was
the one with the problem

I've got terrible stuttering on my Alien BBC plugin.
I'm running SC7.
I have increased the radio buffer to 30 seconds, but still no joy.

If you are using AlienBBC and RealAudio stream - the radio buffer has no
effect.
If the stuttering only happens on a live streams and the stuttering is
either
* short gaps with occasional small pieces of audio repeating
* longer gaps with missing audio
The above is symptomatic of network
If you are running wifi, try testing reception closer to your router. I
used to suffer from stuttering too (you know what I mean!), but
boosting the wifi signal strength did the trick.
