Vietnam celebrates 120th birthday of its founder Publish Date: Thursday,13 May, 2010, at 12:42 PM Doha Time Vietnam celebrated the 120th birthday of its founding father, Ho Chi Minh, yesterday with an emphasis on the least Marxist elements of his legacy. At a conference on Ho's contemporary relevance, the head of Vietnam's Diplomatic Academy (formerly the Ho Chi Minh Political Academy) even invoked Ho's support for capitalist foreign direct investment. In a 1946 appeal to the United Nations for support for his newly declared independent Vietnamese government, Professor Le Hung Nghia said, Ho wrote that "Vietnam arranges favourable conditions for capitalist investment from all nations." It was a vision of Ho that comports well with contemporary Vietnam's free-market economic ambitions. [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
