Im really struck on my original problem and not sure how to proceed. Can someone
point me
to the correct forum if this is not the one. Unfortunately google doesnt seem to
give much information for me to solve the problem myself.

you need to post some runnable code that demonstrates the problem, and
also say what platform you are on and what versions of qt, pyqt, etc you
are using.
