For anyone interested in installing 64-bit qt-4.6.0 on Snow Leopard, it looks like the download at http://qt.nokia.com/downloads is 32-bit. After a bit of digging, I found an alternative installer at http://download.qt.nokia.com/qt/source/qt-mac-cocoa-opensource-4.6.0.dmg which installs a 64-bit library that appears to be compatible with PyQt4 and the 64-bit system python.
