Hi
I had the exactly same problem some days ago.
There is a note on the download page of Qgis saying this is expected and
that there is 4 ways to handle it. I choose to revert to nightly-build
repos.

Hallo Örjan
Compiling from source is quite easy because of the list of dependencies
in the doc:
http://hub.qgis.org/projects/quantum-gis/repository/revisions/master/entry/INSTALL
The list for sid or squeeze should need very little editing (if any)
I use to also compile gdal, geos, proj4 and
Hallo
Could your problem be related to my very strange GPS-problem?

I have asked earlier here on list and on the link, but it seems like I
am the only one experiencing this.

will take a look later if I really
have compiled from the patched version, but if so, there is still a
problem about raw - NMEA conversion.
Or can there be anything else healthy that gpspipe is applying to the
signal?

Well, I found that the gpsd-problem is comming from this issue:

The workaround that Joseph Wolf is giving in the comments is working:

Hallo
If you have your data stored in PostGIS you can do it directly in the
database.
To get a new table with the snapped points and the line attribudes you
can run:
CREATE TABLE line_attribute_point AS
SELECT distinct on (linetable.id) linetable.*,
ST_ClosestPoint(linetable.geom,
I don't think it sounds that strange. Rendering directly from a binary
stream straight from PostGIS should be much faster than going through a
webserver, creating an image and sending that image to QGIS.
What to check is if the spatial index is properly used by QGIS
Mapserver. Maybe it is using
to get the nightly build QGIS maybe even against
GDAL 1.8 (latest released GDAL)

when you say that one of them is larger. what do you mean. do you mean larger
extent, number of features or size of file.
what i wonder is if it could be that the fast one has less complex features
with less vertexes per feature. the size of the actual .shp file can give a
hint.

From Esri perspective I don't think you should consider it basic
functionalitysince it requires ArcInfo license.
But I agree that the functionality included in this Near function isquite
basic. But there is a lot of different functionality mixed up inthe function.

Yes, I really agree that a Lite version would be great.
How big screen is needed I think is mostly depending on what you are going to
do and if the computor is the only tool you are carrying or it it is desirable
to instead always have it in the pocket.
From using Arcpad I think that the

How about Maemo/Meegoo has anyone tried compiling QGIS on Nokia 900.
One impotant thing to think about when discussing Mobile GIS is whatdisplay
technique is used on different devices. We have tryied to runArcPad on devices
with capasitive displayes and that is good forlooking at data,
