Is the layer still in the project and the references file gone?
Then this might be #5809[1].
Well, it was Jose that was having the problem, but I just tested a csv file in
a project, then moving the csv - same crash trace. So I'm guessing it's the
same problem.
Do you know if the new release plan has room for bug fixes in 1.8, or is it all
a mad dash for 2.0?

I don't know where to go with this, taking it back to the mailing list...

Hi,
When I try to open a project created in Qgis 1.7.1 with the last version
1.8, it crashed.
Today I've had no problem opening other old projects.
I work in OSX 10.6.8.
Any idea about this problem.
Regards,

Are there any layer types that are not in the other projects? There was a
problem with my Big Update that broke the GDAL ECW plugin, but that's fixed now.
A crash report would help.

A few things I see that might be a problem:
It looks like you might have an old matplotlib (it's getting loaded by a QGIS
plugin). I updated that after the Big Update.
Old builtin QGIS plugins are loaded. These usually cause QGIS to crash
immediately. Delete the QGIS.app and reinstall.
