Hi all,

Yesterday I've got my personal copy of QL Today which is great. I like the
cover and Geoff's review of Volume 15 which both show what has been achieved
in the passed QL year. I also like Wolfgang's Animal World and George's
Queue Device articles to name just two. I share Wolfgang's view of OOP and
(still) like the design of QDOSMSQ which (at least for me) is no
contradiction. Reading George's article I was amazed how easy-peasy it seems
to be to write a simple serial device driver (not to be mistaken by RS232c)
for QDOSMSQ.

I still remember well the discussions at the 2009 Lucerne and 2010 Vienna
shows of having an SD-CARD interface for the QL. I know that writing a
directory device driver (e.g. for SD-Cards) for QDOSMSQ is far more complex
that writing a serial device driver (see above). Well...

TODAY I've got my personal "copy" (well, it's not a copy, it's an original
unit) of Ser-USB from Memory Lane Computing (Adrian Ives). After collecting
the package at my local post office this afternoon, all I could do today is
unpacking the shipment and have a first sight on the items in the box. The
unit itself and all the other pieces (cables, power supply, ROMport-Dongle,
etc.) look great. As I did not have more time and there's no QL available at
my current location I had to postpone the first usage to coming Thursday the
earliest.

It was Tony Firshman who, at the Vienna show, first informed me on the
project Adrian was working on for a while. Well in the ql-users archive
there's a first discussion on a QL USB interface with Adrian involved dated
October 2009. The first USBwiz discussion dates from February 2007. No need
to count the months (years) from vision to product, it's just great that the
first USB-interface is now available for the QL and hopefully the others in
development will also be available one day.

Note: In my online Sinclair QL picture gallery (see link in message footer)
under Peripherals/USBwiz there is a photo set of my brand new Ser-USB unit.

As often said, but still true TODAY: QL forever!

Enjoy the summer!

Cheers, Urs
