Can anyone recall the changes which occured in the v2 rom for Trump
 Card.
From memory I believe it added the ability to read dos formatted
 disks,
but can anyone remember the commands / device name?

IIRC the level 2 Trumpcard ROM was only ever in the versions of Trump
Card made by Ron Dunnett at Qubbesoft.

So, I guess that you can only determine the status of the ROM with an
Extras command, to see the options ?

Or does it show on load up as a different version number ?

Just checking , as I have a Trump Card available for sale, if anyone is
interested.

Not sure about versions, it may well be possible to tell from version
number.

EXTRAS wpuld certainly list the MAKE_DIR and FMAKE_DIR commands,
that's be one way of checking.

There are BASIC extensions out there which let you check for the
presence of extensions by name, e.g. PRINT EXISTS(MAKE_DIR).

Norman's DJTK has an extension called LEVEL2 which returns a value
which tells you if level 2 drivers (i.e. hard directories) are present
or not.

I don't recall Miracle ever making a Level-2 ROM.
But in 1992 I bought from JMS a replacement ROM made by Falkenberg
Computer Technik that added real subdirectories and a ATR_DEV driver for
Atari/IBM disks.
Hence the name: flp-level-2. There were 4 extra commands:
ATR_DEV: to initialise the driver.
ATR_USE name: to change the device name (def: atr)
ATR_CONV 1/0: to set the QL to IBM translate table on/off
ATR_TRACK num: to set the number of tracks for format (def;80)
Let me know if I need to dig up the manual for more details.
(It doesn't seem to be on the Documents CD.)

I have a user manual update for the Trump Card. This has an update
record for versions 2.01 to 2.12. None of these mentions DOS disks.

On later inspection it says it is a Qubbesoft ROM - where's Ron Dunnett
when you need him?

I wonder if it is just a level 2 driver ROM - which adds MAKE_DIR and
FMAKE_DIR ?

I have asked the customer to do an EXTRAS and see what we get

IIRC the level 2 Trumpcard ROM was only ever in the versions of Trump
Card made by Ron Dunnett at Qubbesoft.

It only had QL level 2 directory capabilities (MAKE_DIR etc) and not
the ATR device, which was a completely different ROM from someone in
Germany (Jorg Schiemann maybe?). The idea of the ATR device was to
allow a QL to read Atari format disks (hence the ATR name) and hence
DOS disks since they are similar.

I'd gladly add the ATR manual to the Docs CD if copyright allows it
and someone could either OCR it or send me a copy to OCR.

The ATR disk driver originally was designed by Jochen Hassler:

  *  15. Dezember 1990
  *ATRDEV V1.03 ©1990 Jo *
  *  exclusiv im Sinclair User Club e.V.  *  PCB-Nr.: 170
  *

There is a German manual, but I don't know anything about the copyright,
which may own Jochen Merz or Jo Hassler himself.
