The Q40 SMSQ/E does not say that anthing other than WIN1_ can be used with
the WIN_FORMAT command.
But if you enter WIN_FORMAT 1 and try FORMAT WIN2_, you get a Access Denied
error message.
So the correct syntx for WIN_FORMAT is WINFORMAT win_drive
This assumes that the WNx_ device has been

NO! The best scenario that can happen is that the drive will not be
recognized as being there. The worst scenario... well, I guess you have
learned about that one!

Hi Richard
I was talking about using a CDRW writer from SMSQ/E. I have used CD writers
on Linux on PCs, so on the Q40 Linux, it should be the same.
I am sorry to say that I prefer SMSQ/E to Linux, but then again, I prefer
Linux to Windows

This is a common problem with the Syquest drives. Sometimes they seem
I'm still having problems with the Syquest and it keeping a partition. I
also found that copying from the Syquest to win1_ caused win1_ to be corrupted.
I'm also starting to wonder about the Q40 manual. I formatted HD like this
Partition 1 (/dev/hda1) QWA QDOS1

Now, after I formatted parition 1 I was able to reboot from linux to SMSQ/E
and copy some files from flp1_ to win1_. Now I did a reboot to verify that
the boot file will run and suddenly I can't see win1_. I set win_drive
1,0,0 and nothing. I set win_drive to 2,0,1 and I see the second
of clusters or blocks in the File
Allocation Table (or whatever it's called in SMSQ jargon). The number
reported by DIR is the actual number of sectors.

w you are saying WIN_FORMAT X will format drive X. So to format the
Syquest I would have to do the following:
WIN_DRIVE 3,1 (Set win3_ to the slave drive on the primary bus)
WIN_FORMAT 3 (to format the drive)
I just tried that (with SMSQ/E 2.91 in ROM) and it did not work.

I think I get it.
Hi
You need to give the WIN_FORMAT command as: WIN_FORMAT win_drive, that is
for WIN4_ WIN_FORMAT 4
My 135mb Syquest gives no problem at all.

Well, this is interesting.
With SMSQ/E 2.91 running (from ROM), I decided to try and format the
Syquest again (just for SG's). I did the following (as per the manual):
win_format 1
win_drive 3,1
format win3_
