Dear Mr. Bengtsson,
I see that there is a package exclusively for clustering data, named as
Cluster Package in R library. It has some clustering algorithms implemented.
Can you tell me how to implement the CLARA and PAM functions from that package
for my data?

My name is Michela Marignani and I'm an ecologist trying to solve a problem
linked to knight' s tour algorithm.
I need a program to create random matrices with presence/absence (i.e. 1,0
values), with defined colums and rows sums, to create null models for
statistical comparison of species
If I understand your problem properly, then your matrices have a
known number of zeros and ones in them. So you can create a
matrix with just this constraint binding via:
mat - matrix(sample(rep(0:1, c(nzeros, nones))), nr, nc)
That command first generates the appropriate number of zeros and ones
(the
Metropolis step).

I have been wrestling with this function for quite a while, and am not making headway.
1) I want to apply a function to the following columns of a dataframe:

I think you need to give an example of input and output to clarify your
question but in case this helps, if x is a numeric vector then
mean(x==2, na.rm=T) gives the proportion of 2s among the non-NAs in x.

Dear all,
I am calling a table (data of several years) by psql command (order by
date)
aggregate(mydata[, c(nymphs, adults)],list(date = mydata$date)

1 09-29-1999 0. 0.
2 09-30-1999 0.1667 0.
3 10-05-2000
As far as I can see those are just character strings, and what has psql to
do with it? Some more details would have been helpful.
Your strings do not appear to be valid dates: the ISO standard is
1999-09-29 etc. So the simplest solution is to use a Standard data
format, which will sort the way

Is it possible to find the mean of some rows (of some table) and to put it

For example we have following table

Maybe you want something like this:

hope this helps,
