investigate
interdisciplinary and problem-oriented approaches to
all aspects of
electronic markets, especially the role and power of
information.
The following and related topics will be covered:

on their interdisciplinary training students are well
able to develop
solutions that address economic, business, legal and
IT aspects in a
well-balanced way after graduation. Within our
information society
they are thus highly qualified for an academic career
as well as for
leading positions in industry.

Scholarship Organization Hanns Seidel Foundation

The aim of the programs for German scholars is to
support junior academics with the right personal and
academic qualifications who are willing to cooperate
constructively and with dedication in forming our
liberal state under the rule of state. There are a
large number of applicants, whom the Scholarship
Organisation tries to select, those students whose
outstanding achievements, social political dedication
and personal qualities offer the best possible
guarantee that the scholarship will be completed
successfully.

In 1981, the Hanns Seidel Foundation support for
foreign scholars began with 24 scholarships for
students from the People's Republic of China. Since
then, assistance has been provided to more than xxxxx
scholars from xxxx countries. Every year, nearly 100
academics, mostly from the Third World, complete the
program for foreign postgraduates, as the rule with
two-year-scholarships.

The stay in the Federal Republic of Germany and the
experiences which it entails are intended to enable
foreign scholars, after they return home, to play an
active part in positions of responsibility in their
countries' economic, technological, social and
political development, and to contribute actively to
mutual understanding and peaceful coexistence.

In 2002, the Hanns Seidel Foundation awards the
following scholarships in Germany:

151 university students; many of them use the
opportunity to spend part or all of an academic year
aboard
125 postgraduates working for doctorates
66 students at the university of the applied sciences
83 students in "sponsorship for junior journalists"

The Hanns Seidel Foundation was the first foundation
to provide assistance to students at the university of
the applied sciences.

Media policy and information technology

Apart from student scholarships, the Scholarship
Organisation has also the section for "Media policy
information technology", whose task it is to establish
and foster contacts with those responsible for
decision-making in media policy and to provide for
further training and information for multipliers with
media competence.

Former scholars

Worthy of note is the close contact that former
scholarship recipient have with the Hanns Seidel
Foundation's work. The "Former scholars club" -
founded in 1992 - carries out ist own events program
with seminars, study trips, etc.

The scholarship Organisation's events

The Hanns Seidel Foundation's Scholarship Organisation
organises weekend seminars and vacation activities,
among other things, for scholars and juniors
journalists, and also media congresses and expert
discussions on media policy.

Foreign Scholarships

Scholarships for foreign postgraduates and academics

Target

For the Hanns Seidel Foundation, assisting young and
highly qualified foreign academics, especially from
Third World countries, is an investment in the future
with the aim of enabling the trained experts to play
their part in the independent further development of
their home countries so as to turn these into
politically stable and economically strong partners
for the entire world. The intention is to avoid
conflicts between developing countries themselves and
between developing countries and industrial nations
and to play a role in paving the way to a peaceful
coexistence of all nations on Earth on a political,
economic and social level.

Target group

The targets for foreign scholarships are young (the
age limit is 32 years) and highly qualified foreign
postgraduates with excellent degrees, good knowledge
of the German language and socio-political commitment.

Recruiting of scholarship applicants

The project managers in cooperation with the Hanns
Seidel Foundation's partner organisations effect a
pre-selection in the respective countries.
Due to the limited resources for this programme,
unfortunately only applicants directly from the above
mentioned projects or their immediate vicinity can be
considered.
The final selection is effected by the Foreign
Scholarships department at headquarters or within the
scope of local selection conventions.
Regrettably, direct applications to the Hanns Seidel
Foundation cannot be considered!!

Scholarship duration

The duration of a scholarship is 3 to 12 months.
Scholarships are granted for research projects,
internships or the final phase of research studies or
doctorates. In the case of doctorates, a 6 to 12 month
scholarship within the scope of "sandwich programs" is
possible.
