I just cut some stays on another rack with a hacksaw. I don’t have a vice so I held the stay down on my bench and went at it. Not optimal but it worked. I do need a vice here. Next time I’ll likely use a Dremel. Robert Tilley San Diego, CA Sent from my iPhone > On Dec 29, 2020, at 4:22 PM,

Was your yellow one the heavy nylon one, or the waxed canvas one? I thought the latter was called Ducksback and came only in dark cotton Carradice green. I did own both the waxed canvas one and the bright yellow nylon one, both Carradice -- the latter was cut more short and didn't like the hoods

While alarming to discover, I think you're fine structurally but that's a place you should clean to bare metal, and get covered with primer and paint. Those kickstand clamp mounts seem to do the most damage when they get a bit loose and let the edge of the plate get levered into the tubes

I have a HubbuHubbuH tandem with a kickstand plate. I found that when I added the upper part of the "sandwich" that there was SUBSTANTIALLY more stability to the kickstand. Loaded with panniers, I was convinced that the kickstand plate alone would have been torn off. YRMV On Tuesday, December
