rhbackup and restoring

Ok, why did redhat write a script to backup your files to tape, but did not write a script to restore them??? Just curious! [grin] I am having a hard time restoring a particular file from my tape. I used: tar -xvf /dev/nst0 dir/filename but it doesn't seem to work! Thanks for you time!
