While spellchecking a message in Netscape Communicator, an attempt to
use the fvwm: Start-WindowOperations-Move to move the pesky modal
spellcheck window out of the way. Lo and Behold, x-windows blew up and
out leaving me at a terminal prompt. Did it twice just to make sure. It
happened again.
